2021 CASA Conference

We had a terrific virtual conference on September 24th-25th. All of the advocates across the state were invited. We were sad that we couldn’t get together in person as we had planned, but grateful we were still able to hold the conference albeit on-line.  Our opening keynote speaker was first lady Abby Cox. Her platform is supporting children and families in Foster Care. She shared an uplifting message with us which turned out to be the perfect start to our day of training. We heard from the UPD Trauma Response Team, practiced mindfulness with Anna Smyth, and had a presentation by Intermountain Animal Therapy. Who doesn’t love therapy dogs! We ended the first day by hearing from the Honorable Mary T. Noonan, a former juvenile court judge about the impact our CASA advocates make in the courtroom. The second day we participated in workshop sessions conducted by the Sunlight Works team and learned more about ourselves and our biases towards those we interact with. Even though it was a virtual event, we all felt uplifted and inspired as the conference came to a close.
